e-Service - 09 January 2022

Good morning and welcome to our first e-Service this year, on the 9th January 2022. In Acts 2:42 , the members of the first church devoted themselves to 4 things: 1. the apostles’ teaching 2. fellowship 3. the breaking of bread 4. prayer / the prayers (depending on which version you’re reading) 1. The apostles’ teaching. Luke doesn’t tell us exactly what the apostles’ teaching was but we can be sure of two things – their teaching was centred on Jesus and based on Scripture. Read the first 2 chapters of Acts , especially Peter’s speeches and think about how he uses the Old Testament and focuses on Jesus. Between Christmas and New Year I was watching part of a seminar on evangelism by Rico Tice at Keswick last year where he was talking about 4 aspects of our use of the Bible: a. Public preaching/teaching. b. Small group study. c. 1:1. d. Individually at home. 2. Fellowship. The Greek word is koinonia. Its origin is in koinonos, which means partner, sharer, companion. Fellowship is much m...

Mexborough Baptist Church Sunday 12th December 2021 Third Sunday in Advent. Welcome to our email service for the Third Sunday in Advent. Isn't it wonderful to see our towns and cities lit up at this time of year - the bright, flashing, twinkling lights on the Christmas trees, lampposts and in shop windows and, of course, on our own Christmas trees at home and the one in church, which our children decorated so well on Advent Sunday. The Bible has lots to say about light; here are just 3 verses: For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light .  Psalm 36:9 “ Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you .  Isaiah 60:1 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.   John 1:4 The last verse refers specifically to our Lord Jesus and we come to worship him now as we sing together ' Light of the World (Here I am to Worship) '  click on the link   A PRAYER FOR LIGHT God,...

Mexborough Baptist Church Sunday 14th November 2021 Remembrance Sunday Photo from Royal British Legion Welcome to this service of Remembrance.  2021 marks 100 years since our nation’s collective Remembrance traditions were first brought together in the pattern we are all familiar with - the poppy, the two-minute silence, Armistice Day, the service for the Unknown Warrior, the march-past at the Cenotaph, and parades and services at war memorials in towns and villages all over the UK.  Our first hymn is a traditional remembrance hymn of gratitude to God for his help in the past and hope for our future - 'O God our help in ages past' click on the link  Prayer    Lord God, may this gathering, together with Remembrance Sunday thoughts and prayers everywhere, help move our world one step closer to the peace of your Kingdom. We come together today to remember with thanks those who have given their lives in service of others; to remember with sadness the su...
